Textile Manufacture in Fujimi

Textile Manufacture thrived around Kawagoe area including Fujimi City during the late of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century. Cotton fabric and silk/cotton union fabric were the main products. There were 4 manufacturers in Tsuruse Village, from 3 to 5 in Mizutani Village and 1 or 2 in Nanbata village in those days. They employed live-in or live-out weavers and subcontract to nearby women of farmers. Women receive yarns and weave fabrics at home. This was called Debata, which was an important side job for farmers.
